Job Description:   

As Electrical Estimator you will be responsible for estimating the cost of commercial construction projects, working with a team of skilled Estimators.  You will assist with quantity takeoffs, pricing, bid preparation, and preconstruction coordination.    

 

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

 

  1. Estimating & Take-Offs
  • Perform detailed and accurate quantity take-offs for:

    • Electrical systems: lighting, power, panels, conduits, wiring, fire alarm, and communication systems.
    • HVAC systems: ductwork, piping, fans, mechanical units, and control wiring.
  • Support the preparation of full cost estimates including labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor pricing.
  1. Pricing & Cost Analysis
  • Request and review supplier/vendor quotes to validate pricing.
  • Assist in developing unit prices and labor factors based on project type, scale, and location.
  • Update and maintain cost databases and historical pricing logs.
  1. Bid Preparation
  • Help assemble complete bid packages, including breakdowns, scope sheets, inclusions/exclusions, and clarifications.
  • Assist in drafting RFI (Request for Information) documents to clarify drawings or specifications.
  • Participate in internal bid reviews and pricing strategy meetings.
  1. Project Coordination (Preconstruction)
  • Work closely with project managers and senior estimators to ensure seamless turnover.
  • Attend site visits, walkthroughs, or tender briefings as needed.
  • Review addenda, drawing revisions, and issue logs to ensure updated pricing.
  1. Software Use & Data Management
  • Use digital tools to perform take offs, track bid progress, and manage tender documents.
  • Maintain organized records of all estimates, notes, vendor communications, and submission files.

 

Qualifications:

Software Proficiency

Estimating & Take-Off Tools (any of the following is a strong asset):

  • Trimble Accubid (Classic or Enterprise) – electrical estimating
  • Plan Swift ,digital take-offs
  • Bluebeam Revu ,for drawing markup and take-offs
  • DataBid.
  • Construct Connect, Smart Bid, Bid Central be bid and tender for project discovery and bid submissions

General Office Software:

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel (required)
  • Proficient in Outlook, Word, and Teams
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Adobe Acrobat Pro, or PDF-XChange Editor is an asset

Education & Certifications

  • Diploma or Degree in:
    • Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
    • Building Systems or Construction Technology
    • Quantity Surveying or Estimating
  • Additional training in blueprint reading, CEC/OESC codes, or HVAC system design is a plus

Experience

  • 3 to 8 years of experience in electrical /(HVAC is an asset) estimating, project coordination, or related construction work
  • Internship, co-op, or site experience is an asset.
  • Familiarity with Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC).
